4. Day One in Japan: morning
Konichiwa! Osaka in the morning!
The travel witch and I woke early — it turns out that we both enjoy waking to sunlight when we travel (helps us acclimate to jet lag) and therefore our day started fairly early — around 7am local time (neither of us bothered to do the math to figure out what time our bodies thought it was — we had slept enough, the view was divine, the coffee was fantastic and it was time to get up.)
Our agenda for the day was blissfully open. Travel Witch had decided the first day would have no activities in case we needed to sleep off jet lag or had an allergy attack or some other nonsense. Our first real item was a foodie tour at 5pm.
We wanted to try the local sandwich breakfast that was so famous (I even accidentally found a band called Japanese Breakfast which I listened to whenever I wasn’t chatting with my companion.) We located a nearby cafe on Google maps and found a skyscraper that was visible from our hotel that looked like it was possibly walking distance, and we just started going.
Immediately I noticed many things that were different from NYC.
1) everyone was dressed in the same colors. Japanese workers seem to wear some combination of navy, white, black, tan, or gray. Invariably they were in business clothes buttoned up to the neck with…
